2017 Summer Institute Schedule
Monday through Thursday – July 10th – 13th, 2017

Registration and Welcome

Strand 1

Designed to meet the interests and needs of:

  • Those starting in HET and
  • Those who have been implementing HET and are beginning to develop conceptual curriculum for their Common Core Standards

Day 1 – Registration for those staying at the Hampton Inn Suites will occur in the hotel lobby from 6 – 7 PM Sunday evening. Registration for commuters will be a 8 AM Monday morning. Conference times are 8:30 – 4:00

  • How to use emotion and movement to speed up and deepen learning
    • Community building
    • Collaborative strategies
    • Introduction to Lifelong Guidelines and LIFESKILLS
  • Personal work time to sketch your classroom environment to add to your plan for the first day of school

Day 2 – 8:00 – 4:00

  • How to use the power of the environment and experience to enhance intelligence
    • Creating an enriched and functional classroom to support learning
    • Exploring potential study trips to anchor learning
  • Personal work time to sketch your classroom environment to add to your plan for the first day of school

Day 3 – 8:30 – 4:00

  • How learning takes place in the brain and how to maximize learning through the Two-Step Learning Process (pattern seeking and developing programs)
  • Demonstration of coaching
  • Personal work time to write procedures and agendas; complete plan for the first day of school and begin planning for the first week of school

Day 4 – 8:30 – 3:00

  • How to develop curriculum to ensure long-term memory of what you teach
  • Personal work time with individualized feedback to complete your action plan

Strand 2

Designed for those who have been implementing the HET model at the last phases of Stage 1, have already begun working with conceptual curriculum, and want to further refine and expand their curriculum, integrating content from their Common Core Standards

Day 1 – Registration for those staying at the Hampton Inn Suites will occur in the hotel lobby from 6 – 7 PM Sunday evening. Registration for commuters will be a 8 AM Monday morning. Conference times are 8:30 – 4:00

  • Refining your use of environment, emotion, and movement to speed up and deepen learning
  • Personal work time to sketch your classroom environment and gather resources for developing curriculum

Day 2 – 8:00 – 4:00

  • Analyzing how an enriched environment with high sensory input and conceptual curriculum help students identify and understand patterns in your curriculum
  • Formative assessment – learning to detect student progress along the Two-Step Learning Process
  • Personal work time to develop key points

Day 3 – 8:30 – 4:00

  • Studying examples of effective and ineffective curriculum
  • Exploring how to teach from key points and inquiries and organize resources
  • Personal work time to refine your key points and develop inquiries

Day 4 – 8:30 – 3:00

  • Gaining strategies for teaching from key points and inquiries
  • Personal work time to complete key points and inquiries for your integrated, conceptual curriculum (for at least one topic for your yearlong theme)
